The Internet-based messenger service WhatsApp is an essential part of daily communication needs for many across the world. Launched about 9 years ago in 2009, the freeware is a cross-platform messaging application. Initially, the app was only available on the Apple Store and had only a messaging feature. The photo sharing feature was added a few months after the apps official launch. Then as with any application, the messenger functions expanded over time. The developers introduced media/audio sharing feature. The voice/ video call features followed soon.

Now WhatsApp has launched amazing new features. Yes, we are talking about the group voice and video calling functions, or as some might call it- conference feature. Android and iOS users across the globe can now get on a group call with WhatsApp.

Are you wondering about how to start with it? Well, you don’t really have to do anything since the features will be updated automatically. In a recent blog post, the developers announced that all the calls are protected by end-to-end encryption.

It was also reported that WhatsApp group call feature will allow a maximum of four people to get on a call together. This means that the person initiating the call can add up to three more contacts in the group call. Well, isn’t it exciting!

All that a user has to do to add a person to the group call is click on the ‘add participant’ button. The button disables itself once four people are on a call together. The process of making group calls and adding participants is the same for both voice and video calls.

There, however, is going to be one difference between the voice and video call displays/ feeds. The screen for the group video call will have the video feeds from all the participants. The voice call display, on the other hand, will include profile pics of all participants except the one who initiated the call.
