As a child artist, Dutt first appeared in the film Reshma aur Shera in 1972.

He then went ahead and got his big debut in his father's film Rocky.

He also reportedly spent five months behind bars in 1982 for possessing drugs. His father then recommended him a rehabilitation centre in Texas, US.

The 1993 Mumbai blasts were like a turning point in his life.

Sanjay Dutt decided to try his hand in politics, and the actor contested in 2009 Lok Sabha elections as a candidate of Samajwadi Party, but Supreme Court rejected his candidature because of his name being dragged in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts.
