RBI is soon issuing a new Rs 100 note in lavender colour. These new notes will be in circulation by next month. In 2016, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced demonetization of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 notes, the powder blue Rs. 100 note was left untouched. We saw in new notes of Rs 500, 2000, 200, 10 and 50 but 100 remained the same.
But now it is all set to go into its new avatar! The new violet note is part of the revised design series introduced after demonetization in November 2016. This note is inspired by Gujarat’s “Rani Ki Vav” (queen’s stepwell) along with the Swachh Bharat logo and slogan on its reverse. Gandhi Ji is still etched there!
In its statement, RBI said that,
“The base colour of the note is lavender. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse. The dimension of the banknote will be 66 mm x 142 mm.”
All the Rs. 100 notes issued by the Reserve Bank in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender, the RBI said. One more interesting feature is this new note is slightly smaller than the existing one and bigger than the Rs. 10 note. To let you know, in the year 2014, UNESCO had recognised Gujarat’s Rani-ki-Vav, the 11th-century wonder in Patan, as a World Heritage Site. Hence the note will keep us reminding about incredible India’s heritage.
And did you know? Orange-colored Rs 200 note is engraved with the motif of Sanchi Stupa. Whereas the brown-coloured Rs 10 note and sky-blue-coloured Rs 50 note feature Konark Sun Temple and Stone Chariot in Hampi respectively.
