The Madras High Court on Wednesday lifted the ban on popular app TikTok with the condition that the platform should not be used for obscene videos. Madras High Court had earlier asked the central government to ban TikTok because it believed the app encouraged pornography.
Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok,
issued a statement saying that the company’s efforts to fight against
the misuse of the platform has been recognised. “The work is never done
on our end. We are committed to continuously enhancing our safety
features as a testament to our ongoing commitment to our users in
India,” it said.
Following the ban, the app was
removed from Apple and Google Play Stores. This meant the ban only
affected potential new users from trying out the app as the old users
already had the app and continued to use it.
