Rahul Gandhi-led Congress Gains Big In Two BJP-Ruled States, Tight Battle In Madhya Pradesh

The final results of assembly election results of five states – Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram, will soon be declared. As per the initial trends, the Congress party has taken a clear lead in Rajasthan, Chattisgarh as well as Madhya Pradesh. The assembly election results will be a high-stake affair for the ruling BJP as the saffron party is currently in power in all these states.

In Chhattisgarh, the Rahul Gandhi-led party has been able to take a strong lead on 65 seats, while the BJP has been ahead on just 17 seats.

On the other hand, Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) is set to sweep Telangana while Mizo National Front (MNF) looking to expand their political footprint in Mizoram. The MNF gaining majority in Mizoram will mark an end for Congress rule in the Northeast.

The trends for all the constituencies from the five states are in accordance with the Exit Poll results. It seems like the ruling BJP has lost the plot in gauging the public sentiment.

After nearly a month-long voting process, the results will decide the fate of 8,472 candidates who are in the fray.

Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot hopes party will be able to replicate these trends at the all-India level.

He said:

“The decision about the post (of CM) is decided by the high command. This is a big gift for Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who was elected as the party president exactly one year ago. The Assembly Election results in Rajasthan show the people of the state have rejected the BJP in all the three states, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.”

Soon after the trends, people were heard chanting After all, the chant heard on the streets of Madhya Pradesh was on the lines of “Modi tujhse bair nai, Vasundhara teri khair nahi (No grudges against you, Modi! Vasundhara, you’re in for some trouble)”.

Kamal Nath, who is a nine time MP from Madhya Pradesh, expressed confidence that the Congress will form the government in the state.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, a strong critic of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government, has criticised the saffron party leadership and its policies ever since Modi was appointed as the prime minister of India.
