Zero released and there is no doubt about the fact that the film is the most awaited movie of the year. Ever since we got news of Shahrukh Khan playing a dwarf in the film, we’ve been super excited. And with good reason.
First things first. Shahrukh is totally believable as a dwarf living in a small town. His star power is not overbearing, and most importantly, his being short is not treated as a disability. In fact, Anushka’s role as an NSAR scientist but bound to a wheelchair has been played to perfection.
The only role we could have done without is probably Katrina Kaif. Like most her films, she is merely an accessory – one that does not add any value to the film.
Shahrukh’s Bauaa Singh is a truly loveable character. His being a dwarf is not for once used to gain sympathy. Instead, SRK portrays him as someone who prefers to shirk off his challenges, embrace them and achieve what he wanted to in the first place, despite all the challenges that come his way.
Zero is essentially a film about relationships, irrespective of who you are, the status you hold or physical challenges that you may have to face. The intricacy of the relationships makes for a beautiful movie, which is sure to tug at your heart strings.
Yet, we wish that the story had unfolded in a better way. Aanand takes too long for the actual story to start, and it borders a bit too much on the unrealistic and the fantastical for our liking. We would have liked it to be a bit more like Andhadhun or Badhai Ho – real and relatable.
The music is great, but we have to say, all those cameos by a number of stars like Deepika Padukone or Karisma Kapoor weren’t really needed. However, this is the last time you get to see Sridevi on the big screen.
If we were to rate the film, we’d give it 2 out of 5 stars.
On the other hand, we have another movie releasing this weekend – KGF, which is releasing in Hindi, Telegu, Tamil, Malayalam, and English. The film is a period drama and shows that South Indian films are no longer restricted to movies like Baahubali.
The action sequences in the film are well done, which make it worth a watch. The film focuses on one man’s fight against oppression and is possibly the first movie in the series.
Also, the screenplay of the film is good and the best part is, there are no stereotypical Bollywood songs in the film that are unnecessary. We wish Aanand L. had also kept the same in mind.
If we were to rate this film, we would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
