Sonali Recounts Telling Her Son Ranveer About Her Diagnosis In An Emotional Post

Sonali Bendre earlier this month revealed that she has been diagnosed with high-grade cancer. The actress vowed to fight the illness every step of the way and left for New York to get treatment. Her immense strength, visible from her post left us all inspired. Love and support poured in for Sonali from many in the industry.

A few days later, Sonali shared with us one of the first milestones in her path to recovery. She posted pictures of herself sporting shorter hair and truth be told, she looked as amazing as ever.

In the words of my favourite author Isabel Allende, “We don't even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome.” The outpouring of love I’ve received in the last few days has been so overwhelming… and I’m especially grateful to those of you who shared stories of your experiences in dealing with cancer, whether it was your own or of loved ones. Your stories have given me an extra dosage of strength and courage, and more importantly, the knowledge that I’m not alone. Each day comes with its own challenges and victories and so for now, I’m taking this #OneDayAtATime. The only thing I’m trying to be consistent about is maintaining a positive outlook... literally #SwitchOnTheSunshine - it’s my way of dealing with this. Sharing my journey is also part of this process... I can only hope it reminds you that all is not lost and that someone, somewhere understands what you’re going through. 🤞🌞 Thank you @tomoarakawa for making this a chic transition from long to short!

The way that the star has been handling herself through this difficult time is commendable. Fortunately, she has the unwavering support of her friends and family, to whom she had expressed her gratitude for everything they were doing.

And we see why as her husband, Goldi Behl has stuck to her side throughout this journey so far. From the diagnosis to cutting her hair, he has been in the sidelines, supporting her.

Today, Sonali spoke about her second source of strength, her son Ranveer.

Speaking of the time she had to face the dilemma of having to tell her kids about her diagnosis, Sonali begins:

From the moment he was born 12 years, 11 months and 8 days ago, my amazing ranveer took ownership of my heart. from then on, his happiness and well-being have been the centre of anything goldie behl and i ever did. and so, when the big c reared its ugly head, our biggest dilemma was what and how we were going to tell him.”

She states that, as much as she and her husband wanted to shield Ranveer from the pain, they also knew that it was important to be transparent with him. She says, having always been very open and honest with him, they weren’t going to let this time be different.

Sonali marvels at how her son took the news:

He took the news so maturely… and instantly became a source of strength and positivity for me. In some situations now, he even reverses roles and takes on being the parent, reminding me of things I need to do!

I believe that it’s imperative to keep kids involved in a situation like this. They are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. It’s important to spend time with them and include them, rather than make them wait on the sidelines, not being told yet instinctively knowing everything. In our effort to protect them from the pain and realities of life, we might end up doing the opposite.”

The doting mother adds that she is now spending time with Ranveer during his summer vacation and that his madness and shenanigans keep her positive.

Along with the emotional post, Sonali shared a picture with her son, in which she seems to be sporting even shorter hair than earlier.

She concludes her post with the hashtag #SwitchOnTheSunshine as always, and this line that tugged at my heart:

“And today, we derive strength from each other #onedayatatime.”

In fact, Ranveer went a step above to support his mom during this difficult time. Sonali’s hairdresser Tomohiro Arakawa reposted her post with this story about Ranveer:

The sweetest boy I’ve ever seen… Just a few weeks before this pic was taken when I gave him a haircut, he told me he likes long hair.

But when his mom chopped her hair off, he asked me to shave his hair off… What he has on his head now is the strongest, sweetest, and the most beautiful message for his mom that ‘he is with her fighting against cancer‘. And that shows us how much he has been loved by his parents!”

Tomohiro also shared a picture of Sonali with her shorter hair.

Her journey through this phase of her life and the immense grace she and her family are displaying though it all is awe inspiring. We wish more strength and a speedy recovery to the star.via- storypick
