When technology meets safety...
With women safety being an ever-looming concern, there have to be men like these five engineering students from Moradabad Institute of Technology. Shivam Srivastava, Rajeev Singh Maurya, Rishabh Bhatnagar, Nikhil Kumar and Nitin Kumar have together completed this project of women's safety jacket, they are all final year students of B.Tech (electrical).
The safety jacket, when worn is capable of giving a 3000-volt shock to anybody who touches the wearer. It has a camera fitted to its pocket which can record the act on a memory card to be used as evidence later. The GPS-GSM module installed in it can send a text message to a registered number. All these amazing features will be active only when the woman suspects any unruly act and switches the power ON.
“With the increase in the number of crimes against women, four of my friends and I got together to make a jacket – which will help in saving a woman from any kind of harassment by giving a shock of 3000 volts to the person who tries to touch her. The high voltage is not dangerous, because the current that will flow will be approximately 0.14 milliampere", said Shivam Shrivastav, the team leader of the project, according to The Times of India.
The project has cost the students somewhere around Rs. 15,000, but they admit that a mass production would pull down the cost to approximately Rs. 11,000.
