Heavy Mumbai Rain Brings City to Standstill

Normal life has been thrown out of gear in Mumbai, as incessant rains which has been continuing over the last one week have flooded the city.

Heavy water logging has been reported in many parts of the city including King’s Circle railway station, Suman Nagar, Kajupada, Mulund- Sonapur and Anand Nagar. The water level at Thane station has exceeded to reach till the platform height.

Traffic has been diverted due to waterlogging at Andheri subway and Southbound traffic has slowed due to potholes on Sahar Elevated Access Road. Train services along the lines of Western Railway have also been affected. PRO of Western Railway said that trains are being run at restricted speed in Nalasopara due to water on railway tracks. “There is no water logging anywhere else on Western Railway routes,” he added.

Several BEST buses have been diverted at various places in Mumbai. Buses from Sakinaka and Kamani via LBS Road, Asalpha were diverted due to waterlogging in Bail bazaar Kamani. The traffic police have advised Mumbaikars to venture on the roads only if it is necessary. Officers have requested the commuters to check radio and WhatsApp updates on traffic before heading out.

Offices across Mumbai registered fewer turn up on Monday as the rains and flooded roads made commute an impossible task. Many also complained that cabs were not willing to take passengers or were overcharging multiple times. More heavy to very heavy rain have been predicted over the Konkan region and Goa for the next 48 hours.
